A vision for climate resilience in Libya
The Weather Makers partnered with Grand Challenge AI to craft a bold strategy for restoring Libya’s landscapes and securing its future. By combining Nature-based Solutions with advanced technology, we developed a roadmap that tackles water scarcity, desertification, and climate instability—laying the foundation for long-term environmental and economic resilience.
A land in crisis
Libya is facing a climate emergency. Extreme heat, declining rainfall, rising sea levels, and relentless sandstorms are accelerating land degradation. With 80% of its territory covered by desert, water is scarce, and cities are struggling to sustain their populations. Decades of natural and anthropogenic factors combined, have put immense pressure on once thriving ecosystems, leaving barren and degraded landscapes threatening livelihoods.
Engineering regeneration at scale
The Weather Makers took a systemic approach, identifying key intervention sites in northeast Libya with high potential for regeneration. Our strategy integrates coastal restoration, atmospheric moisture recycling, and targeted regreening—designed to rebuild ecosystems, stabilize water cycles, and enhance climate resilience.
A blueprint for transformation
Our masterplan outlines a clear, science-backed path forward. The final package includes an in-depth report analyzing environmental challenges, data-driven solutions, and expected outcomes. An 11-minute video brings the strategy to life, while an A1 poster distills key insights into a compelling visual narrative.
Restoring Libya’s landscapes isn’t just about reversing damage—it’s about designing a future where nature and communities thrive together.
